Job details
Role: SEN Teaching Assistant
Pay: £60 per half day
Location: Reading
Contract: Part-time
Working hours: 12:45 until the end of the school day. Monday - Friday
About the role
We are looking for a skilled and patient Teaching Assistant to support our ASEND Tutor in afternoon sessions with a 7-year-old boy with Autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in his school. He has Speech and Language difficulties and struggles with flexibility of thought, often engaging in restricted, repetitive play. Our student is a lovely, happy, and playful child with a great sense of humour. He enjoys role-playing, buses, cars, superheroes, dinosaurs, animals, zoo webcams, and playing on his tablet.
He sometimes becomes anxious and upset and needs a calm, skilled adult to help him refocus, regulate, and feel supported. To help with this ideal candidate will be able to build a calm and nurturing environment, trusting relationship, engage him in his interests, and provide consistent, supportive interventions to help him thrive in a structured school environment.
If you think this is not the right role for you, do still apply as we are always on the lookout for people with different expertise to work with our pupils in various locations.
About you:
* You’ll have some experience with SEN: Autism, SEMH, Speech and Language difficulties
* You may be an experienced Teaching Assistant or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way
* You’ll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement
* You’ll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan
* Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning
* Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils
* Use a person-centred approach in their work
* Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do
* Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.
Benefits:
* Generous and competitive rates of pay with a pay structure to increase your pay
* Pay scaling to enable you to increase your rate
* Opportunities for professional development
* Friendly support and guidance to enable you to meet the individual needs of learners and to ensure that you feel confident in your position
* Training in working with children with SEND
* Option to arrange work around the existing schedule
* Join a friendly and supportive team
At ASEND you will always be well supported by our highly qualified and experienced team and well-remunerated for your work.
