Financial Accountant – 9 Month Fixed Term Contract (£35,000 to £38,000)
Location: Leicester or Northampton (hybrid working available)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Financial Accountant to join a well-established professional services firm on a 9-month fixed term contract. This role offers exposure to a broad range of accounting responsibilities and would particularly suit a candidate who is immediately available or on a short notice period.
The Role
As an Financial Accountant, you will play a key role within the finance team, supporting ongoing projects and day-to-day financial operations. You will work closely with senior finance stakeholders and contribute to key business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
*Support finance team projects, particularly the Accounts Payable Project and the development of new dashboards.
*Produce VAT returns and assist with month-end reporting (including fixed assets, prepayments, and accruals).
*Take a continuous improvement approach to enhance finance processes and reporting.
*Work with the Head of Finance to set chargeable targets for fee earners.
*Provide data and insights to support decision-making across the business.
*Conduct work in progress (WIP) reviews with fee earners.
*Assist with payroll, bonus calculations, and P11D reviews.
*Prepare management and statutory accounts, tax analysis, and year-end reports.
*Support the Chief Financial Officer and Head of Finance on key deliverables, including the annual budget and audit preparation.
*Manage and support junior finance team members, including the purchase ledger assistant and accounts assistant.
About You
We’re looking for someone with a strong background in accounting and financial reporting, ideally gained within the legal or wider professional services sector. You’ll be a confident communicator, able to liaise effectively with senior stakeholders and fee earners, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
Essential Skills and Experience:
*Previous experience in a similar accounting role.
*Confident with VAT, payroll, and month-end processes.
*Experience within legal or professional services would be highly advantageous.
*Strong Excel and systems skills
*Available to start immediately or at short notice.
