Job Title: Trading Standards Officer – Food Standards
Location: Remote, office and on the road visiting businesses
Salary: £20-£34 per hour
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week - This is a temporary role for 20 weeks
Department: Regulatory Services – Trading Standards


About the Role
Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Trading Standards Officer to join their Regulatory Services team, focusing on Food Standards enforcement. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact on public safety and consumer protection by ensuring compliance across food businesses.
You will carry out inspections, investigations and proactive regulatory activities, providing specialist advice and taking enforcement action where necessary. You’ll also lead on projects, engage with businesses and consumers and contribute to the development of best practices.
Key Responsibilities
*Conduct inspections and interventions at food businesses.
*Provide expert advice on Trading Standards legislation, especially food standards.
*Undertake investigations and gather evidence for enforcement and legal proceedings.
*Lead and participate in regulatory projects and initiatives.
*Maintain accurate records and produce reports and legal documentation.
*Stay up to date with legislation, technology and best practices.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered, you must hold one or more of the following suitable qualifications for food standards enforcement:
*CTSI Trading Standards Practitioner Certificate with Food Standards unit
*TSQF Diploma or Higher Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (DCATS/HDCATS) with Food Standards Service Delivery Module
*Diploma in Trading Standards
*Diploma in Consumer Affairs (DCA Part II) with Food and Agriculture paper
*TSQF Certificate of Competence in Food Standards
*TSQF Core Skills Certificate (CSCATS) with Food Standards Service Delivery Module
*Diploma in Consumer Affairs Certificate of Competence in Food and Agriculture
All qualifications must include successful completion of written exams, portfolios, oral and practical exams and professional interviews.
Person Specification
*Strong knowledge of Trading Standards legislation and enforcement practices.
*Excellent communication, analytical and investigative skills.
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
*Experience in inspecting high-risk premises and managing complex cases.
*Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
