Company profileSnowflake School is small, outstanding special school for pupils aged 5-16 with Autism. It was co-founded eleven years ago by our Chair of Trustees Mrs. Faryaneh Akhavan. Her team of dedicated Trustees give us tremendous support and ensure that Snowflake is an “Outstanding School,” (Ofsted Inspection, 2013, 2016, and 2019)
Just as no two snowflakes are ever the same, we view our pupils and staff as individuals with their own personalities, likes and dislikes, strengths and challenges. Snowflake provides a positive and secure learning and working environment, where we aspire to nurture pupils and staff to flourish and grow to their fullest potential.
Teaching at Snowflake school is guided by the science of applied behaviour analysis (ABA) including Skinners Analysis of Verbal Behaviour. We use an individualised approach to learning with the aim of increasing communication and independence through scientific analysis. Once a pupil has taken up a place at Snowflake School, their development is constantly monitored through daily data keeping, individual and group teaching programmes, meetings and review using a range of specialised assessment tools. This information will continually inform the pupils’ learning journeys, whilst providing clear scientific evidence of learning and progress.
All pupils receive 1:1 individualised support as well as regular opportunities for group learning/play and generalisation throughout the day.
Staff receive a full induction and then regular training including; overlaps with supervisors, coaching, weekly learning surgeries, a weekly study group and twice weekly specific training related to competencies. Staff also receive regular on the job feedback and a professional development review where they can identify further training/sudy they would like to do. This is reviewed after 6months and a year.
Well being is at the centre of everything we do ; for staff pupils and families. staff receive a pay increase after successfully passing their probation, opportunities to to take further study and training, weekly relaxation /yoga, complimentary, breakfast, tea, coffee, Christmas bonus and 13 weeks paid school holidays. Pupils receive an environment with professional and well trained staff where they can grow and blossom and families can access a range of support plus daily contact with the tutors.
