Job Description:
Interim Finance Director (Charity) - Nr. Truro / Hybrid - £52-68,000
When reading a vacancy listing, what are the key elements that have to work? Remuneration and benefits? Flexibility? Working environment? Well, what if a role can tick all of those boxes and happens to be for an organisation that is genuinely making a real difference!
Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to have been re-engaged by one of our long standing clients, a highly regarded and undisputedly successful charity driven by one of the most passionate teams that we’ve ever worked with. The charity’s existing Finance Director will soon be taking maternity leave and they’ve tasked us with finding an experienced interim to hold the fort. This is a full time contract with an anticipated duration of 14 months, commencing in August/September 2024. The organisation offers a generous hybrid working arrangement (for those that want it), operating up to four days remotely per week, with the remainder based at their headquarters in a beautiful location near Truro.
Working closely with the charity’s CEO and a wider team of colleagues and volunteers, the incoming FD will assume full responsibility for the charity’s operational and strategic finances. The role will be well supported by a small but experienced accounting team and the successful candidate will regularly liaise with the board of trustees. Key responsibilities to include:
- Manage, mentor and develop a small, experienced and very happy finance team
- Regularly communicate with the board on financial performance, highlighting KPI’s risks and objectives
- Look for opportunities to enhance and streamline the charity’s reporting function
- Ensure all statutory compliance adhering to the Charity Commission requirements
- Produce high quality budgets, forecasts and strategy packs
- Consider cost strategy and recovers
- Continuously develop and maintain the charity’s bespoke digital accounting platform
- Act as a key Finance Business Partner to a range of department heads, leading and influencing on best practice
- Lead on a range of ongoing fund raising projects
Think you’ve got what it takes? We’re looking for a passionate, energetic, and down-to-earth finance-number-one with a demonstrable history of success. A professionally qualified individual (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), you’ll need excellent communication skills and a desire to continue to look for new ways to improve efficiency. A proven leader with the ability to manage a small team, the successful candidate will require a good level of IT aptitude and the ability to quickly get up to speed on a bespoke accounting platform. Whilst previous experience of charity accounts would be useful, particularly SORPS, external fundraising and partial VAT exemption, the opportunity is open to those with strong private sector commercial experience. But perhaps most importantly, the incoming FD will undoubtedly share in the charity’s passion and mission objectives.
It’s a big job, but a rewarding one, and well suited to a driven leader who cares about their colleagues and likes the idea of working for an organisation which is impacting lives.
Interested? Great, I’d love to tell you more. For a confidential, informal chat, or to move straight to application, please contact Dan Saunders or a member of our commercial team in confidence, quoting reference DS9981.
