About the Role
Are you passionate about advancing scientific research? We are recruiting a dynamic individual to join us as the deputy manager for our Biological Resources Group which incorporates the assisted reproduction laboratory and the team co-ordinating the imports and exports of biological material. As one of the custodians of the National Mouse Archive (NMA), you will also play a pivotal role in expanding the genetic resources available to the scientific community (currently over 2,500 mouse strains), and lead in the exchange of the biological materials that fuels groundbreaking research on the causes of human disease, all around the world.
You will play a crucial role in cementing the MLC’s role as the National Resource Centre for mouse genetics. Your responsibilities will be essential to maintain the accuracy, comprehensiveness, and currency of the information held in our records and reflected on our website.
About You
You will need to hold/have:
· PhD in genetics or a biological subject
· Experience working within a similar biological environment
· Experience working with model organisms (animals, plants, bacteria, flies etc.) in the laboratory or in the field
· Knowledge of resource management/logistics and good people skills
· Knowledge of biological systems, specimen curation and data annotation
Key Responsibilities
As the Deputy Manager, your main duties and key responsibilities include:
· To manage an experienced team, dedicated to the archiving/rederivation/distribution of genetic resources
· Working closely with external and internal scientists to ensure that the descriptions for the mouse strains held in the NMA are up to date and presented on our website
· Work with the European Mouse Mutant Archive (EMMA) to maintain the NMA’s standing as the sole publicly funded archive in the UK
· Liaising with scientists in specific disciplines at meetings, or through direct contact to promote the collections held in the NMA
