Job Description:
Job Title: VAX VMS IT System Manager / Administrator.
Knowledge of Fortran and developing application in Fortran.
Location: London and Jersey (frequent travel required)
Contract Type: Long-term Contract
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled VAX VMS Fortran IT Systems Administrator to join our team on a long-term contract basis. This role involves managing and maintaining our VAX VMS systems and ensuring the smooth operation of our Fortran applications. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in VAX VMS administration, strong Fortran programming skills, and the ability to travel between our London and Jersey locations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Administer and maintain VAX VMS systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
* Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize Fortran applications running on VAX VMS systems.
* Perform system monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning.
* Implement and manage system security measures and data protection.
* Provide technical support and resolve issues related to VAX VMS and Fortran applications.
* Coordinate with other IT teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems.
* Plan and execute system upgrades, migrations, and patches.
* Document system configurations, processes, and procedures.
* Train and mentor junior staff members, providing guidance on best practices.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Extensive experience in VAX VMS system administration.
* Strong proficiency in Fortran programming, specifically on VAX VMS platforms.
* Deep understanding of VAX VMS architecture, commands, and utilities.
* Proven experience with system performance tuning and capacity planning.
* Expertise in system security and data protection best practices.
* Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Willingness to travel frequently between London and Jersey.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience with other legacy systems and programming languages.
* Knowledge of modern IT infrastructure and cloud-based solutions.
* Familiarity with networking and storage solutions.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* Relevant certifications in VAX VMS and/or Fortran programming are a plus.
