Job Description:
The role
To support the UK Delegated Authority Underwriting Manager in underwriting the UK DA book, with a specific focus on Pet & Household accounts
To profitably underwrite new and renewal business
To assist in winning new profitable UK DA opportunities
Key accountabilities
Underwriting
To analyse new and renewal business in-depth to ensure it meets underwriting criteria and margin
To comply with all relevant underwriting guidelines and procedures at all times
To monitor KPI’s and data packs provided by clients on a monthly basis and to arrange and participate in data calls to analyse these
To manage and assist in managing the underwriting process in accordance with the appropriate checklists and guides
Review and assess wordings and underwriting criteria with Legal & Compliance
To set premium forecasts and business plans in agreement with Finance
Relationship Management
Build strong and effective relationships within the business, including other underwriters, claims, actuarial and overseas colleagues
Represent the company externally at client meetings, insurance conferences and broker meetings
Claims
To work closely with the Claims team to ensure early identification of issues and solutions to emerging challenges
Actuarial
To work closely with the Actuarial team to continuously monitor accounts and to proactively identify problems including the dedicated personal lines actuary
Project Management
Participate in DA & branch wide projects as required
Skills & experience
At least five years’ of Personal Lines Underwriting experience
Excellent knowledge of the fundamentals of Personal Lines insurance with specific knowledge of the UK market and Pet and/or Household business
Good knowledge of the issues and challenges within Personal Lines
Good understanding of insurance pricing and underlying principles
Experience of working closely with Claims and Actuarial
Progress towards CII qualifications desirable
Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Ability to consistently hit deadlines and effectively manage conflicting priorities
