The Role

The Group Tax Manager will: 
* Be responsible for both direct and indirect tax, with a need to review and have oversight of returns calculated internally and via external support
* Maintain an awareness and up to date knowledge of changes within tax legislation/requirements to ensure the business can plan appropriately. 
* Need to have a sound understanding of the financials within the business, in terms of capital allowances, profit and loss reports and budgets across the Group. 
* Engage with the businesses auditors on tax matters and manage the relationship with the external tax advisors.
* Engage with and foster relationships with stakeholders across the business, including senior finance leaders across the business and commercial teams regarding M&A activities
* Get involved in the tax implications of M&A activity across the business. This element is one that will grow with the role, and the individual can learn this element in conjunction with external support.

Nigel Wright is delighted to be working in partnership with a large Group based in Newcastle who are looking to appoint a Group Tax Manager. 
The Person

* Ideally you will have trained within either a Big 4 firm or a local independent firm
* Our client will consider an experienced Manager / Senior Manager looking for their first move from the profession, or an individual who is already undertaking a similar role within a commercial business
* Strong commercial tax background is essential, as is the ability to hit the ground running from a compliance standpoint
* Any experience of tax in M&A activity would be an advantage, however, is not essential
* Strong stakeholder engagement - confident operating at a senior level both internally & externally
