The Vacancy
We are looking for a talented senior Business Development professional to join our Business Development and Marketing team to support the firm’s growing industry sector focus. The role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual who has an exceptional track record in delivering effective industry sector programmes from within a global professional services firm. The role requires a strategic and commercial mindset and ability to demonstrate a high-level of initiative to translate emerging business issues and developments into opportunities.
The candidate will be working for a group of highly-engaged stakeholders across the firm’s network. They will be supported by a Business Development Executive and collaborate closely with the firm’s Digital Marketing, Events, Communications, Bids and international Business Development teams.
This role can be based within the UK or in the location of one of our European offices.
Key responsibilities:
Sector programme strategy:
* Working alongside Sector Heads, develop the sector strategy and its respective sector sub-group business plans.
* Drive the execution of the strategy and its effective communication to the firm, its target clients and the wider market.
* Monitor and measure the progress of the key sector strategy goals and communicate sector performance to key stakeholders on a routine basis, highlighting development opportunities and progress against objectives.
* Communicate sector context and opportunities to all stakeholders internally and externally and drive broad, effective participation.
* Build trusted advisor relationships with Sector Heads and provide commercial, robust BD guidance to the entire sector group.
Client relationship management and targeting:
* Lead the industry sector client account development programme with - build, retain & grow being the key focus.
* Work on the development of new services to sector clients, open new client relationships and increase the distribution of new services and campaigns.
* Drive the origination of BD opportunities and help convert new opportunities into client work.
* Participate in client listening within key sector clients to promote retention and growth.
* Develop intermediary relationships and channels that will contribute to the achievement of the sector plan and key goals.
Horizon scanning:
* Regularly conduct market research and horizon scanning to identify thought leadership and BD campaign opportunities.
* Provide knowledge, insight and strategic guidance on sector developments, horizon scans and opportunities to the sector group and the wider firm.
* Help channel industry knowledge and horizon scans to sector clients and targets.
* Attend external events relevant to the sector to contribute to BD initiatives and to enhance the sector’s profile.
Campaign delivery, profile raising and cross selling:
* Lead on campaign development and delivery to achieve high BD activity for the sector and increase its profile in the market.
* Project-manage the full cycle of sector campaigns providing insight into ROI and performance (execute minimum of two thought leadership campaigns per financial year).
* Work collaboratively with the firm’s PR, Events and Digital teams to strengthen the sector group market profile and ensure that the sector has an effective digital media presence and a profile-raising plan combining regular client alerts and media engagement.
* Lead on cross-selling across practices, jurisdictions and other sectors.
Marketing infrastructure:
* Develop a reliable infrastructure and process in relation to the sector group’s marketing collateral, intranet and website pages, practice newsletters, client mailing lists and alerts, credentials database and the local use of the firm’s CRM system.
* Manage the sector BD & Marketing budget effectively and to plan.
* Work with Event colleagues to develop an event plan that supports the sector.
* Support the sector group on RFPs, pitches, directories and award submissions.
Co-ordination:
* Facilitate collaboration with international BD & Marketing, practice area and other sector teams to ensure full coordination of activities and identify key opportunities for involvement.
Business Development skills development and training:
* Provide strategic advice and ongoing development of sector group lawyers’ BD knowledge and skills.
* Organise Business Development training for sector group teams and individuals.
Qualifications and experience:
* Degree educated.
* At least 5 years’ experience of working in an industry sector focused role within a professional services environment.
* Excellent relationship-building skills and experience.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong digital skills and understanding of digital and social media channels.
* A collaborative, strong team player approach.
* Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks.
* Strong stakeholder management experience.
