An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced Operations Director to support the Managing Director in the profitable development and growth of the business. The successful candidate will oversee all business operations, ensuring the safety of our people and delivering on our promises to customers.
The Candidate;
* Extensive operational experience in logistics and haulage operations
* A senior management background within a general haulage operation
* Working knowledge of the Highway Code, EU tachograph requirements, Working Time Regulations, and Road Transport Regulations
* A extensive knowledge of transport & warehouse management systems
* Proven leadership and management of multi-functional teams
* Experience in analysing and solving business problems
* Track record of enhancing customer satisfaction and driving business growth
* Ability to motivate and identify employee development needs
* Effective management and delegation to meet customer requirements
* Strong communication and negotiation skills for fostering long-term relationships
* Ability to multitask and prioritise effectively
* A business management or finance qualification is highly desirable
Duties and Responsibilities;
* Collaborate with the Managing Director to align business operations with company strategies, meeting goals set by the Managing Director.
* Assist in the preparation and implementation of business plans and annual budgets, ensuring they are approved by the board.
* Manage operational staffing levels, ensuring sufficient headcount is maintained to deliver high levels of customer service.
* Communicate and enforce company and group policies and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance and consistency across the business.
* Lead, develop, and motivate staff to build a skilled workforce, foster employee development, and ensure effective succession planning.
* Support the Managing Director in managing investments and assets to promote business growth.
* Represent the company in commercial and operational activities, promoting a professional image.
* Implement a commercial rate review program to enhance profitability.
* Establish and maintain robust operational processes for commercial compliance and effectiveness.
* Promote a continuous improvement mindset throughout the organisation
* Manage the complexities of a company offering a full suite of logistics services, including transport, warehousing, and value-added activities.
* Lead the promotion of apprenticeship recruitment to address industry skill shortages.
