Job Description:
Summary As Assistant Gardener, you’ll be working with the team to deliver the day-to-day care of the garden and maintain high presentation standards. This role will include a range of practical tasks to develop, improve and look after the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects.
You’ll work 2 days per week, ideally on a Tuesday and Wednesday or a Wednesday and Thursday. There will be some weekend working on the department rota (maximum 2 days a month).
A driving licence is essential to this role.
What it’s like to work here In this role, you’ll report to the Gardener. The Outdoors team at Croome includes the Garden and Outdoors Manager, Gardener, 2 Assistant Gardeners and volunteers, the Area Ranger, 2 Assistant Rangers and volunteers.
What you’ll be doing Responsibilities may include assisting with the planting and maintaining of shrubs and borders, reed management in the lake, mulching, hedge cutting and lawn mowing. You’ll work alongside the garden team and our volunteers. You’ll talk to the public every day, answering a variety of garden-related questions and talking about what you are doing with pride.
We’re looking for someone with a practical approach, getting the day-to-day work done and a passion for plants. The role can sometimes be physically challenging, and we use a wide range of machinery and equipment to help us get our work done. The use of machinery such as hedge trimmers, strimmers, and ride-on and pedestrian mowers is essential, but training will be provided.
