Job Description:
An opportunity has arisen to join De Montfort University’s (DMU) Transformation Portfolio Office (TPO) as an Associate Project Manager. DMU is an ambitious, globally minded institution with a relentless focus on delivering quality teaching and learning, and a campus-wide focus on providing a sector-leading student experience.
A culturally rich university with a palpable commitment to the public good, it strives to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment where staff and students can thrive. The university is a vibrant, multicultural hub of learning, creativity and innovation that never surrenders to convention. Our success is built on a fantastic student experience coupled with award-winning teaching and world-class facilities that help students develop the skills and attitudes employers’ demand.
Faculty / Directorate
The Transformation Portfolio Office (TPO) is an integral part of the newly formed Transformation Office and plays a crucial role in the development and oversight of comprehensive changes to the university’s business operations. This includes overseeing a critical, multi-year transformation journey that aligns our technology, workforce, and work processes to successfully achieve the objectives outlined in the Empowering University Strategy.
To efficiently handle the complexities of change at DMU, the Transformation Office was established and operates under the supervision of the Associate Director for Portfolio, Change and Improvement. This service amalgamates the capabilities of continuous improvement and strategic project management into a unified, interdisciplinary team, while also introducing a specialized portfolio management function for our strategic initiatives.
Role
As an Associate Project Manager at De Montfort University, you will be integral to the Transformation Office, supporting the delivery of significant change, transformation, and improvement initiatives across the university. Reporting to the Business Change and Project Managers, your primary responsibilities will include coordinating and managing the progress of strategic business change projects using robust programme and project management principles. You will apply both agile and waterfall methodologies to ensure structured planning, proactive risk and issue management, and effective governance.
Additionally, you will engage with a wide range of stakeholders across multi-disciplinary project teams, contributing to the Transformation Portfolio Office’s (TPO) Centre of Excellence by supporting project management training, maintaining the online toolkit, and advising colleagues to build capacity and confidence in portfolio, programme, and project management.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the Associate Project Manager role will have a solid foundation in project management principles, with experience in both agile and waterfall methodologies. You should possess excellent organisational skills, enabling you to structure, plan, and coordinate complex change and improvement projects effectively. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills are essential, as you will be working with various university departments and teams.
You should have experience in risk and issue management, governance, and compliance with institutional values and processes. A proactive and positive attitude towards continuous improvement, along with the ability to contribute to the TPO’s Centre of Excellence by facilitating workshops and providing project management training, is crucial. If you are passionate about driving transformative change and have a collaborative approach, we encourage you to apply.
