Faculty / Directorate
Library and Student Services is responsible for providing a wide and diverse range of services to all our students including Student Welfare, Careers & Employability and Library Services.
Role
As Wellbeing Officer, you will provide professional and impartial short-term counselling to students individually and in group settings. You will help design and deliver our suite of HealthyDMU Masterclasses, and other bespoke sessions. Our successful masterclasses are an opportunity for students to develop life skills such as managing pressure effectively and getting the most out of their confidence. The role will require you to act as part of our Single Point of Access (SPA) service, to assess student needs and work in collaboration with colleagues to ensure interventions are identified and referrals made as required to support student retention and attainment. This role is on a 2 day (15 hours a week) to be worked on a Monday and Tuesday to meet the needs of the service.
Ideal Candidate
You will hold a relevant professional qualification in counselling. Your experience of working with young people and adults from diverse backgrounds will demonstrate your excellent ability to deliver a flexible needs-led provision. Your advanced approach to risk assessment and management skills in relation to student wellbeing, especially in relation to mental health will ensure that the university’s principles on Health and Wellbeing are at the forefront of the Student Welfare Team. You will have excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all members of the University community. You will share DMU’s passion to provide outstanding and inclusive outcomes for all of its students. This role will require a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
