Our client a leading and reputable national trade association based in Buckinghamshire, established for over 100 years with over 100 company members is currently seeking to appoint a Commercial Director.
The Role of Commercial Director
The position will play a crucial role in driving commercial growth opportunities for the Association alongside fostering strong relationships within the membership base, whilst being self-funding at minimum within an agreed timeframe.
This position will be a ’senior’ position for someone with commercial/industry experience and the knowledge to take on board and develop commercial proposals, prepare business and project plans, and where relevant, the execution/delivery of some activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development:
Working closely with the Association Commercial Committee to identify, research, and qualify potential business opportunities and partnerships that align with the Association’s goals and objectives, including member engagement, the regulatory environment, education, growth and service provision.
Conduct market research to identify emerging trends and member needs.
Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of leads and opportunities.
Create and deliver persuasive presentations to current & potential future members.
Negotiate and close commercial deals, subject to Council agreement ensuring mutually beneficial agreements.
Implementation of projects as and where agreed.
Member Engagement:
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with the Association Commercial Committee and existing members to understand their needs and ensure their satisfaction.
Develop and implement strategies to increase member retention and engagement.
Conduct regular check-ins with members to gather feedback and address concerns.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver value-added services and support to members.
Market Analysis and Strategy:
Analyse industry trends, competitive landscape, and market dynamics to inform member development strategies.
Provide insights and recommendations for product/service enhancements based on member feedback and market research.
Contribute to the development of long-term business plans and strategies to drive engagement activity and business.
Reporting and Analysis:
Maintain accurate records of business development activities, including leads, conversions, and revenue generated.
Provide regular reports and updates to management on key performance metrics, business development progress, and member engagement efforts.
Analyse data to identify areas for improvement and optimisation of revenue generation plans & member engagement.
Communication and Collaboration:
Effectively communicate with internal teams to align business development efforts with Association objectives & members’ needs.
Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to develop promotional materials and campaigns both relevant and timely to members’ needs.
Represent the Association at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.?
Person Specification
Proven experience in business development, sales, or a related field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.
