Job Description:
Nicholas Howard is delighted to be recruiting for an Assistant Financial Controller to join a highly successful financial services company that specialises in the acquisition and servicing of mortgage portfolios. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with some strong experience behind them to advance their career within a mature and well-established business.
This role will report directly to the Financial Controller, and together support theDirector of Finance and Strategy in managing the Group’s internal and external reporting, including preparation of management accounts, statutory accounts, funding and regulatory returns, treasury, audit and tax requirements.
The post-holder will play a role in the financial planning and analysis process, including budgeting / reforecasting, variance analysis and investment appraisal, and will assist the FC/DOFAS in the effective running and operation of the Finance Department, providing cover for the FC where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting
* To assist in the preparation of all financial internal and external reporting including:
* Internal management accounts
* Internal Board and Committee reports
* Funder reports and returns
* Regulatory reports (including MLAR, PSD, Bank of England and FCA surveys / thematic reviews)
* Annual statutory accounts
* Tax returns and iXBRL accounts

Operations
* To perform accounting tasks to support effective month end closing process, including reconciliations and journal processing.
Financial planning and analysis
* To assist in the preparation and presentation of the annual Budget (and Reforecasts as appropriate)
* To perform monthly analysis of variances to Budget / Reforecast and prior year as appropriate
* To assist in the investment appraisal process and due diligence of potential acquisitions and new business development opportunities
Audit, tax and accounting
* To assist in the day to day running of the year end audit, providing a key point of contact for the external audit team, resolving issues as they arise
* Preparing all tax returns (including corporate tax returns and computations, iXBRL, VAT and CT61)
* To support the FC/DOFAS in providing technical guidance on all accounting matters, preparation of accounting papers and keeping abreast of accounting developments as they affect the Group
Treasury
* To oversee the cash management for the Group, including:
* Timely and accurate preparation of covenant compliance and rollover reporting for bank funding lines
* Monitoring adherence to the funders’ eligibility requirements and reporting thereof as applicable
* Assisting with refinancing of funding lines as required

Key Skills
* Qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA (or equivalent) with up to 1-2 years’ post-qualification experience
* Strong accounting (FRS 102) technical knowledge with proven intellectual horsepower
* A robust team player able to work collaboratively with other members of the Finance team and wider business as required
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficient IT skills including Excel, PowerPoint and financial modelling
* Demonstrates good problem-solving skills, excellent planning and time management skills, comfortable working to deadlines with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail
* An energetic self-starter prepared to go the extra mile to achieve success and able to work well under pressure
* Experience of the external audit process (highly desirable)
* Financial Services experience (highly desirable)
