Role Summary
Underwriting a range of moderate and simple Marine Cargo risks, working within specific authority limits on assignments of simple to moderate technical complexity.
Key Responsibilities
* Determining the acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
* Recommending appropriate pricing and coverage modifications or enhancements for risks after complete analysis.
* Answering questions from Brokers and internal / external contacts, escalating issues as necessary.
* Preparing written communications on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations.
* Notifying Brokers of decisions as needed.
* Analysing the quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten, and preparing reports for management review.
* Assisting with marketing products and services through the brokerage community, and making field visits.
* Developing and maintaining positive Broker relationships.
* Working with more senior underwriters or management on risks that exceed your authority level or require special handling.
* Assisting the wider team in servicing online client / broker certificate system.
* Updating underwriting systems.
Key Requirements
* Previous experience as a Marine Underwriter, or exposure to Marine risks.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
* Excellent negotiation and technical expertise.
