Senior Python Developer, Insurance
City of London / hybrid
To £700 a day (inside IR35)

Senior Python Developer is required to join a vibrant multinational insurance organisation with offices in the heart of the city. Within this role you will be responsible for providing technical support to a Pricing tools project with significant involvement with the build of rating models in a Python based SaaS application. You will work collaboratively with key business stakeholders and technical peers to ensure successful completion of the project. Insurance experience is essential for this role.

Key responsibilities:
* Construct rating tools in a new Python based rating engine and UI, replicating calculations as they exist in current Excel based templates.
* Investigate available Python libraries and modules to find the most efficient way to structure, develop and execute the code-based solutions.
* Collaborate closely with the Pricing team to ensure full understanding of the rating structure requirements.
* Ensure tool builds are consistent with overall agreed solution architecture and framework.
* Stress test new tool builds, comparing functionality with the current Excel structures, identifying potential issues, and correcting or improving as required.
* Review Python coding of other tool developers to ensure correct implementation and support best practice coding between developers.
* Work closely with the IT architects to ensure that any data connections developed as part of the model build comply with IT and compliance standards.
* Investigate and utilise appropriate external data sources to enhance and complement existing rating structures.
* Produce documentation of construction steps and procedure as required to support transfer of knowledge and consistency of future model builds.
* Help team to develop DevOps best practices and train and support other actuarial team members in the use of advanced software engineering approaches.

Key Skills:
* At least 5 years of experience in a data science or similar role, preferably within the insurance industry.
* Advanced knowledge of Python, including hands on experience with large data set manipulation and calculation modules.
* Advanced knowledge of SQL, including hands on experience of structuring tables, creating queries and managing procedures.
* Strong knowledge and experience of data analysis techniques, including statistical analysis, predictive modelling, and machine learning.
* Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Excellent organisation and planning skills to ensure that the project runs in a timely and professional manner.
* Experience in working on similar Pricing tool projects would be hugely beneficial.
* Broader experience working within a Pricing or Actuarial function is a plus.
* Experience working with cloud computing and big data technologies (such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.
* University Degree and/or relevant professional qualification in a quantitative field such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, or economics.
