Job Description:
SSEN Transmission Community Fund Panel Members

* 549916
* Closing at: Aug 7 2024 at 23:55 BST
Following an extensive stakeholder consultation exercise in 2023, this September SSEN Transmission will launch its first Community Benefit Fund with the aim of bringing positive benefits and a long-lasting legacy to communities across the north of Scotland.
Given the amount of investment planned as part of the Pathway to 2030 network improvements, it is expected that community benefits funds associated with new planned infrastructure will be in excess of £100m; this is subject to final UK Government guidance being published and approval from our industry regulator Ofgem.
SSEN Transmission will operate two funds:
* A regional fund which will be open to community organisations, not-for-profit and charities operating within its licence area across the north of Scotland and the Scottish Islands; and
* Local funds which will benefit communities which host new transmission infrastructure.
We are currently developing the processes and criteria for these new funds but we expect that priority will be given to those projects that deliver on our identified themes of:
* People - focusing on skills, training and employability
* Place - emphasising the community and culture of the north of Scotland, and
* Reducing fuel poverty levels (an additional theme following public consultation)
The Opportunity
We have appointed Peter Peacock to chair the regional fund panel, Peter is a former Scottish Government Minister and Convener of Highland Council. We are now looking to appoint three further members to form a decision-making panel for the SSEN Transmission Regional Fund. The panel will be formed of the following members:
* Chair of the panel – Peter Peacock
* Three other independent advisors, who can contribute knowledge and expertise on the core themes of the fund
* A representative from SSEN Transmission
Panel members will assist the chair and decide on the outcome of applications received. We are particularly interested in hearing from members with knowledge and experience of one or more of our three identified themes.
Applicant Criteria
We are keen to encourage applicants who:
* Have experience of working in or with the third sector
* Have a background or experience that is relevant to any specialist topics or specific areas of focus listed above
* Can support the Fund’s development and delivery of its commitment to social impact
* Take a collaborative approach to working with others
* Are comfortable being challenged and to challenge in a constructive manner
* Can act as an advocate for the fund and its objectives.
Commitments and Considerations
The panel will meet approximately twice a year (both virtually and in-person), corresponding with two funding rounds per year. Members will need to allow up to two to three days per meeting (a total of up to 6 days per year), to read panel papers and attend panel meetings. The standard length of term for a panel member is 3 years, up to a maximum of 6 years. The remuneration for this post will be £4,000 per annum.
