About the role

This role is part of an expanding Credit Risk delivery team. The team plays a key role in supporting the delivery of the Society’s strategic plan objectives. Through both the maintenance and development of credit policies and strategies we define how much, to whom and what property the Society will lend.

We are looking for a Senior Lending Policy Specialist to take ownership of these crucial elements of our credit risk management framework.

Key Responsibilities of this role * Develop, implement, and maintain credit policies for Mortgage lending. Ensure lending complies with regulations and aligns with our risk appetite.
* Understand lending dynamics and balance credit risks with commercial returns. Use strategic thinking and problem-solving to improve credit risk and P&L performance.
* Be aware of changes in both the external market and internal performance identifying risks and opportunities to ensure that lending policy remains current.
* Maintain accurate and compliant policies across the credit lifecycle.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have significant experience in lending policy and underwriting in the UK mortgage market with an in-depth understanding of the relevant regulatory requirements.
You’ll have excellent investigative, analytical, research and reasoning skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills which will support you when out and about in the business a lot.
You will have experience of using programming languages like SAS, SQL, and ability to translate data into actionable insight.
You will have good understanding of Credit Risk decision systems, with the ability to generate change requirements and identify coding changes for automated rules and other decisioning strategies.
