Job Purpose

An exciting role is on offer to support Canada Life UK in achieving its sustainability vision to support our clients through life’s milestones, being there when needed to help build strong, financially secure, sustainable futures.

This important role will be in the sustainability function. The successful candidate will be a core part of the team bringing our sustainability vision to life and ensuring effective implementation of our sustainability strategy. This will include supporting the UK Sustainability Officer with stakeholders’ engagement across our business to enhance and deliver our sustainability strategy to leverage and embed sustainability as a driver of business performance.

Duties/Responsibilities


Strategy
* Assists the UK Sustainability Officer to support CLUK in the delivery of its sustainability vision and solutions.
* Preparing briefing notes, packs and papers and collating supporting materials to enable the UK Sustainability Officer to engage with internal partners and colleagues to ensure that our activities in responsible investment and sustainable operations are well understood both internally and externally.
* Ensures outward focus to our sustainability strategy by researching markets, competitors and macro events to benchmark our activities, commitments & reporting. This may involve working with external partners and supporting the sustainability management team by summarising findings, identifying areas for development and continuous improvement, supporting ongoing research and assisting to develop recommendations to generate year-on-year improvement in our sustainability metrics and outcomes.
* Supporting the UK Sustainability Officer to design and shape our sustainability strategy and expedite the delivery of our responsible investment and sustainable operations ambitions.
* Keep abreast of relevant sustainability regulations to assist the UK Sustainability Officer in their work to promote best practices to appropriate teams (including procurement, investment teams, colleagues working in DEI and colleague volunteering and social impact) and to identify opportunities for innovation and fostering knowledge sharing across Canada Life UK.
* Assist UK Sustainability Officer as required with sustainability duties including supporting with internal and external requests for support and producing and analysing data and MI related to sustainability as appropriate and required.
Programme Management
* Embeds global sustainability processes and frameworks, including collaborating with group sustainability colleagues across the globe.
* Provides effective project support to ensure timely delivery of reporting and special projects, creating robust frameworks and processes, where necessary, and following existing procedures, as appropriate.
* Facilitates the administration of cross-business working groups & successful delivery of key deliverables including, for example, regulatory reports such as TCFD reporting.
* Engages with stakeholders to frame deliverables, escalate time-sensitive deliverables and support monitoring of project success.
* Helps frame deliverables and develops tactical solutions for priority initiatives.
* Partnering with the UK Sustainability Officer, liaising and collaborating with cross functional stakeholders as required. To ensure we can implement our sustainability strategy across our business.
* Assisting with the preparation of public reporting including producing and updating activity trackers, organising data, organising meetings and identifying key issues for discussion to support the timely delivery of reporting.
What you’ll be accountable for
* Supporting public climate and sustainability reporting.
* Supporting the UK Sustainability Officer in delivery of the Sustainability strategy.
* Assisting with the preparation of reporting for various Committees & Boards.
* Engaging with multiple functions across the UK division on sustainability matters.
* Working with the UK Sustainability Officer to help set sustainability strategy and supporting with delivery of our responsible investment & sustainable operations ambitions.
* Keeping up to date with regulations related to sustainability and our obligations as a responsible business.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Demonstrated interest in sustainability, either through a previous relevant experience working in a similar role or through training/education.
* Exposure to working in the Financial Services sector would be desirable.
* Strong influencing skills and experience of managing projects and initiatives with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
* Able to clearly define and communicate complex and evolving Sustainability topics to a range of stakeholders.
* Strong organisational and analytical skills / writing experience together with the ability to gather information and use it to draw sound conclusions and present coherent arguments.
* Ability to deliver work to a high standard under tight time pressure with attention to detail.
* Continuous drive & energy to get things done, look at ways to continuously improve ways of working and have an ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing demands.
* Strong and concise communication skills as role requires both verbal presentations and written reports.
* The ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across teams and functions at Canada Life, acting with integrity and role modelling the company values at all times.
* Being able to flex style and approach to different individuals, with occasional coaching and support, in order to achieve a successful outcome.
* Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
