Job Description:

Main Purpose of the Role:
The Paralegal role requires an experienced individual to manage the companies legal risks and to protect the companies legal interests from legal disputes, mainly cargo claims filed by cargo interests in greater European area (from north of Norway to north of Africa and from Iceland to Cyprus) and Middle East.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Paralegal:
* Overall management responsibilities for legal disputes and claims
* Liaising & reporting to Headquarters major disputes and claims
* Sound knowledge of marine law for UK, Europe, and Middle Eastern Countries
* Creating and guiding a standard claim procedure for all local offices and agents
* Supervision of claims handling procedure for all local offices and agents
* Investigating incidents
* Collecting and reviewing documentary evidence
* Referring claims in which the companies 3rd party liability may be involved to P&I Clubs for P&I Club’s assistance and recovery from P&I Club
* Appointing surveyors, solicitors and arbitrators
* Assessing legal liability in accordance with the relevant contracts and international Conventions
* Documenting all claims on the companies internal system and also using extensively MS Office and Email
* Liaising with claimants, correspondents, customers internally and externally, P&I Club to discuss security to avert ship arrest and Letter of Undertaking requests
* Identify and collate evidence in respect of potential recoveries from third parties
* Maintaining good business relationship with the companies P&I Clubs, Law firms and others acting for the companies interests
* Providing good claim services to the companies customers
* Rejecting, defending or negotiating amicable claims settlement in order to protect the companies interests
* Arranging payment of settlement fund,
* Pursuing recoveries from liable parties
* Supporting HQ in communicating P&I Clubs, lawyers, experts based in London, UK
To Be Considered:
* Previous experience in a Paralegal role preferred
* Sound knowledge of Marine Law for UK, Europe, and Middle Eastern Countries
* Experienced skills for dealing with maritime claims and disputes
* Good educational background (Degree qualified or equivalent)
* Shipping background preferrable not essential
* Excellent negotiating skills
* Excellent experience of procedure for claims
* Experience of report writing
* Competent written and oral communication
* Flexibility to travel within Europe
* A results orientated and professional manner are also essential
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
* Good interpersonal skills and good organisational skills
* Ability to use own initiative to solve issues
* Exhibit high level of integrity and ethics to ensure fairness across HR practices
* Ability to be adapt to changes and meet deadlines
