Job Description:
United Utilities is seeking Principal Standardisation Engineers who will play a pivotal role in advancing asset development and operational efficiency. With two roles available, ideally specialising in civil and electrical engineering, the selected candidates will utilise federated resources management, a comprehensive approach to design standardisation, and informed, risk-based decision-making to streamline AMP 8 programme delivery and ensure United Utilities achieves its efficiency objectives and maintains operational consistency. The Principal Standardisation Engineer at United Utilities embodies the technical core of the company’s standardisation efforts. This position is crucial for guiding standardisation processes and ensuring engineering practices align with the organisation’s strategic objectives. The individual in this role will be deeply involved in developing standardised assets, working closely with the Standardisation Manager to translate visionary ideas into practical applications. In this capacity, the Principal Standardisation Engineer will lead the technical aspects of the AMP 8 program, collaborating with a team of engineers to innovate and refine engineering solutions.
This role requires a hands-on approach to problem-solving, a thorough understanding of engineering principles, and the ability to assess and integrate new technologies. The engineer will also contribute to the mentorship and professional development of the team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. The success of United Utilities’ standardisation initiatives largely depends on the expertise and leadership of the Principal Standardisation Engineer. This role requires not only technical proficiency but also the ability to drive change, steering the company towards sustainable and efficient operations. The Principal Standardisation Engineer will be at the forefront of this transformative journey, ensuring that United Utilities remains an industry leader through innovation and a commitment to excellence.
Key Accountabilities:
* Facilitate the delivery of discipline-specific work for standard products within the capital program, including design, documentation, and adherence to deadlines.
* Serve as a central figure for standard asset knowledge and assess deviations from product standards.
* Drive the integration of standardisation into the capital program, contributing to the Standardisation Strategy and its implementation. Develop partnerships with supply chain entities to advance market-led standard products and continuous improvement with emerging technologies.
* Mentor developing engineers and represent the company in external technical collaborations, while also providing input for corporate governance decisions
Skills and Experience:
* Chartered or Incorporated professional or demonstrable equivalent level of expertise
* Detailed working knowledge and experience of standardisation, procedures and technologies
* Experience in leading successful multi-disciplinary resources in a highly technical and commercial environment Hold a current UK/EU driving licence
