Senior IT Support Engineer
Leatherhead - Hybrid Working
Salary up to £45k per annum + Benefits
Technet is currently partnered with the Research and Development arm of a global telecommunication company who have the needs for an experienced Senior IT support engineer to join them,
The Role:
This role is ideal for individuals with a background in R&D or academic settings. As a Senior IT Administrator, you will be responsible for:
* Maintaining and enhancing our existing systems.
* Collaborating with engineering teams to develop new systems for upcoming projects.
* Providing occasional support for common IT issues, such as password resets.
* Acting as the main IT contact in the absence of the IT Manager.
* Ensuring all tasks are executed with a security-first mindset, adhering to company security policies.
Key Responsibilities:
* System Maintenance: Manage and maintain Windows laptops, Windows servers, and a variety of engineering systems running Linux distributions such as Red Hat and Ubuntu.
* Collaboration: Work closely with NEC Europe Ltd for infrastructure services, and support engineering teams with custom hardware systems for GPUs, FPGAs, etc.
* Application Management: Maintain and support applications including Jenkins, Confluence, JIRA, Subversion, Git, Zabbix, and Ansible on Linux servers, with a transition plan to Microsoft Azure.
* Network Administration: Manage network hardware (firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi APs) and troubleshoot network services (DNS, DHCP, NFS, SAMBA, SSH).
* Security: Implement and enforce security policies and procedures across all IT operations.
Requirements:
* Experience: Extensive experience with both Linux and Windows operating systems.
* Linux Proficiency: Advanced skills in Linux shell scripting, configuring network interfaces, managing firewalls, software packages, and OS upgrades.
* Windows Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft cloud services, M365, SharePoint, and remote troubleshooting of Windows 10/11 systems.
* Networking: Solid understanding of LAN/WAN networks and troubleshooting.
* Additional Skills: Familiarity with Windows Active Directory, GPOs, and PowerShell is desirable.
* Mindset: Proactive and responsible approach, with a keen enthusiasm for acquiring new skills and working both independently and as part of a team.
