Job Description:
We are looking to recruit a numerate, driven and inquisitive graduate to learn the investment management business from the bottom up and progress into a Research Analyst position over the course of 1-2 years via:
* 3 X 4-month rotations through a number of closely related Investment Management (IM) departments.
* After 2 years should be in a position to focus / specialise in research and analysis of closed end funds (CEFs) and holding companies;
* Initial departments to cover include Information Services (Data Analyst); Portfolio Management Support / Trading; CEF/holding company Research;
* Initial focus will be on building knowledge around proprietary database systems and portfolio management support.
Information Services:
* Researching and collating data for CEFs for analysis and input into our proprietary database
* Updating records with respect to buybacks
* Updating NAV tracking models for all funds monitored and monitoring large changes in country and stock allocations
* Updating all static information held in the research database (portfolio manager information, frequency of NAV/number of shares issued/geographic data)
* Reviewing and checking the integrity of the data in the research database.
Portfolio Management Support:
* To assist in the efficient running of the IM team
* Production / distribution of IM reports used to complete investment process
* Assisting the fund managers in identifying potential trades on a daily basis
* Monitor Investment guidelines and ensure compliance with IMA’s including the production of the Investment Limit report.  Investigate and report on any discrepancies
* Responsible for inputting trades completed by London IM into Charles River and running the IM Cash Sheet
* Responsible for fair allocation across accounts and identifying discrepancies in asset allocation
* Responsible for electronic matching of trade confirmations
* Responsible for daily filing of IM reports and deal sheets
* Responsible for completion of ad-hoc projects assigned by the Firm’s Fund Managers
CEF / Holding Company Research:
* Training to learn the basics of conducting research and providing investment recommendations for CEFs and holding companies
* Learn how to interpret analytical models of CEF and holding company balance sheets
* Identity and assist in the evaluation of new investment opportunities
* Build and maintain valuation models for holding companies
* Maintain and manage research diary for London traded / researched CEFs
* Monitoring and interpreting news flow on Holding Companies / Conglomerates and Informing IM of any significant changes/news on macro backdrop/companies
