Job Title: Education Psychologist
Location: This position isn’t being advertised as a remote position but I expect many locums will want to know this. We wouldn’t rule it out at this stage as the EHCP does not stipulate the EP has to be ’in person’ but we do have a preference for a local provider who can meet the family in person as this would be beneficial for building of relationships
Contract Type: 1 year contract
PAYE rate: £492.79
Umbrella/ LTD rate : £635
About the Role
* To lead and coordinate an individualised Education, otherwise than in School (EOTAS) package for a child with an Education, Health, and Care plan for 1-2 hours per week.
* To provide a visual record of what the child has done well, such as a piece of work, sharing their ideas, overcoming something that they found hard in their learning or looking at the progress that they have made.
* Provide ongoing support to develop the child’s awareness of strategies that they can use to reduce their anxiety. For example, controlled breathing, distraction, visualisation, movement, and mindfulness techniques.
* Coordinate and support the providers listed within the package to promote the child’s outcomes.
* Ensure that the provisions listed within the child’s EHCP are upheld and always promoted.
* Work with the LA SEND Service in fulfilling its statutory responsibilities regarding the SEND Code of Practice.
* Ensure the contribution and application of psychology to raising standards and the emotional wellbeing of children, young people in Hampshire.
* Establish strong links with partner agencies that support better outcomes for children, young people in Hampshire.
What is the day-to-day of the role:
* Ensure county wide and local priorities are identified and incorporated into the local area delivery of educational psychology services.
* Work with HLT and the LA to plan, organise and deliver a range of statutory and post statutory activities (0-25 years) for the child. This includes work relating to (e.g.) completing exceptional requests, annual reviews, and tribunals.
* Support in the response to complaints (including Stage 3, LGSCO and Judicial Reviews) and compliments.
Required Skills and Qualifications
A fully qualified educational psychologist (EP) i.e.
* An Honours Degree in Psychology or equivalent qualification giving Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR) with the British Psychological Society (BPS)
* Successfully completed post graduate professional training as an educational psychologist recognised for registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (MSC or Doctorate)
* As part of the program of support, the Educational Psychologist will be asked to complete a 2-hour online training in PANS/PANDAS - a condition not recognised by NICE that has a similar impact to Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue.
Experience and Knowledge:
* Successful experience as a practicing psychologist in a Local Authority EPS, working across the age-range 0-25 years.
* Demonstrable commitment to applying psychology to support children and young people.
* Experience of managing professionals. As part of this organising team meetings; providing line management and professional supervision; completing appraisals.
* Experience of leading and delivering multiple projects.
* Experience in working in a traded service context.
* Detailed knowledge of the statutory and policy framework which guides the work of educational psychologists.
* Experience of working with professionals from other agencies
* An understanding of the policy framework that supports the work of Educational Psychologists.
