Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Pastoral Support Officer to join our team at a specialist Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) school in Enfield. This is a key role in providing emotional, behavioural, and academic support to students who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges. The successful candidate will work closely with students, teachers, and families to create a nurturing and supportive environment, ensuring each student can thrive both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
*Provide one-to-one and group pastoral support, addressing emotional, social, and behavioural needs of students.
*Act as a mentor to identified students, building strong, trusting relationships and promoting positive behaviour.
*Assist in the implementation of behaviour management strategies, working closely with teaching staff to maintain a positive learning environment.
*Work with students and families to improve attendance, reduce persistent absenteeism, and identify any barriers to school engagement.
*Respond to immediate emotional or behavioural crises, providing a calm and supportive presence.
*Establish positive relationships with parents and carers, providing updates on student progress and offering support for challenges faced outside of school.
*Act as a key point of contact for safeguarding concerns, ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all students by following school safeguarding policies.
*Liaise with external agencies such as social services, CAMHS, and educational psychologists to ensure comprehensive support for students.
*Contribute to the development and review of individual student support plans, including EHCPs, behaviour plans, and risk assessments.
*Promote the school’s inclusive, supportive ethos, helping students to feel valued and respected.
Person Specification:
Essential:
*Experience working in a pastoral or support role within an educational or SEMH setting.
*Understanding of SEMH needs and experience working with children and young people with emotional, behavioural, and mental health difficulties.
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
*Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and policies.
*A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to handling challenging situations.
*Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
