Job Description:
Job Title: Matron
Location: Dover
Salary: Starting salary of £17,660 per annum (Band 3 pay scale) rising to £18,044 through performance-related appraisal
Employment Type: Working term time only. There is a 3-week rolling rota with 3 different shift types.
Job Summary
Are you passionate about supporting young people and fostering a positive, nurturing environment? Our client is seeking a dedicated Matron to join their House Pastoral Team, where you’ll be at the heart of student well-being, contributing to a vibrant and supportive community.
As a Matron, you’ll play an instrumental role in overseeing daily operations within your assigned House. Your responsibilities will range from supporting students’ academic progress to ensuring their well-being. This role is ideal for someone with a professional background working with students, excellent communication skills, and a warm, empathetic approach.
Key Responsibilities:
*Liaison & Support: Collaborate closely with Housemasters/Mistresses, acting as the primary point of contact for student welfare, and addressing any concerns with initiative and care
*Student Supervision: Supervise students’ day-to-day activities, helping them maintain routines, resolve disputes, and encourage personal growth
*Meal & Medication Management: Accompany students with meals, administer first aid as needed, and provide care with support from the Medical Centre
*House Maintenance: Coordinate with Facilities Management for repairs and oversee general cleanliness and student responsibilities
*Event & Activity Coordination: Assist in organising social and sporting events, helping students engage in enriching extracurricular activities
*Cleaning Duties: Supervision and reinforcement of student roles and responsibilities, general cleaning of Staff House Office(s), deep cleaning of the Boarding House, ensure House laundry routines are completed, cleaning and sanitising bathhouses; showers/shower floors, toilets/toilet areas, sinks, mirrors and floors
Mandatory Duties:
*Health & Safety: Prioritise the welfare of all staff and students in your care
*Equal Opportunities: Uphold and promote equal opportunities within the School
*Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and well-being of all young people within your House
Qualifications:
A good basic level of education up to GCSE / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, or a commitment to work towards a Level 3 NVQ is essential
*NVQ or BSA qualifications for working with students are desirable
*First Aid qualifications are desirable, but opportunities will be provided to obtain these in post
*A range of training opportunities will be available to Pastoral Leaders, who are expected to show commitment to their professional development
*All Pastoral Leaders must complete and pass the Medication training
Essential Skills:
*Strong communication and organisational skills
*Experience working with students or in a similar setting
*Basic ICT skills for record-keeping and monitoring
*First Aid qualification (preferred) with opportunities for in-post training
*A good sense of humour, resilience, and flexibility in a dynamic school environment
