Job Description:
Are you an experienced and highly skilled Solicitor with a solid background in Court of Protection work? We are seeking a committed Solicitor to handle a diverse and challenging caseload while providing expert supervision and guidance to our department.
About the Role
This role requires a knowledgeable and proactive professional with expertise in the Mental Capacity Act 2005, to provide high-quality legal representation and support in complex Court of Protection cases. You will play a vital role in advising clients, overseeing junior team members, and helping to shape our approach to Court of Protection work.
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid role)
Salary: Competitive
Key Responsibilities
*Advise on the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and initiate proceedings where appropriate.
*Bring or guide judicial review claims, civil claims, or discrimination claims arising from Court of Protection cases.
*Handle a caseload of complex Court of Protection cases, maintaining compliance with legal standards.
*Supervise junior team members, including trainee solicitors, ensuring high standards in casework.
*Conduct training for junior staff to promote excellence in Court of Protection practice.
*Ensure compliance with file management, billing, and administrative procedures.
*Prepare and manage Legal Aid Agency funding applications for eligible clients.
*Build and maintain strong relationships with referral agencies and contribute to business development efforts.
*Support the department’s billing targets.
Person Specification
*Experience: PQE with solid experience in Court of Protection work.
*Proven experience in managing and developing junior staff.
*Strong case-management skills with a history of meeting or exceeding billing targets.
*Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to advise clients on complex issues.
*Strong analytical skills, with experience in drafting, litigating, and advocacy.
*Familiarity with Legal Aid Funding Rules and CCMS is beneficial.
