Job Description:
Data Engineering Lead *Location: Kirklees
*Job Type: Full-time
*Salary: Grade 16 (specific amount to be discussed)

As a Data Engineering Lead within the Council’s Data and Insight Service, you will spearhead a multifunctional team dedicated to designing, developing, and delivering robust data services and products. These efforts support our business intelligence, analytics, and insight needs, helping us find smarter ways to work during challenging times.
Day-to-day of the role: *Build and develop the Council’s data engineering capabilities, providing leadership in both technical and personnel aspects.
*Take technical responsibility for all stages of data engineering projects, offering method-specific advice and ensuring compliance with standards.
*Lead the design and implementation of complex data flows, integrating multiple data sources both internal and external.
*Establish and maintain enterprise-scale data integration procedures throughout the data development lifecycle.
*Predict and adapt to technology changes that could impact projects, introducing innovative data-related approaches and practices.
*Promote the importance of metadata repositories and establish robust governance processes for their management.
*Lead and manage the collection, quality assurance, and submission of local, regional, and national data returns.
*Champion data engineering practices across the Council and foster strong relationships for cross-service collaboration.
Required Skills & Qualifications: *Degree or postgraduate qualification in computer science, mathematics, data science, business intelligence, or equivalent experience.
*Strong knowledge of data modelling concepts and principles, with experience in producing data models across various subjects.
*Proficient in GDPR and other key regulations.
*Experienced in agile development methodologies.
*Proven track record in designing, building, and testing complex or large-scale data products and services.
*Demonstrated leadership in developing data engineering practices and standards.
*Skilled in developing automated, scalable data flows and working with various data types and structures.
*Experience with cloud-based data platforms and services such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services.
*Ability to work confidentially and commit to ongoing personal and professional development.
