Job Description:
Biodiversity/Ecological Officer *Hourly Rate: £18.53
*Location: Hybrid (at least 1 day office-based)
*Job Type: Part-time (1-2 days per week)
*Duration: Interim (3-6 months)
We are seeking a Biodiversity/Ecological Officer to provide essential biodiversity and ecological support to our team on an interim basis. This role is crucial for processing outstanding planning applications and supporting the team while recruitment for a permanent position is completed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ecological or biodiversity fields, particularly with Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), and experience in a planning development management environment.
Day-to-day of the role: *Provide expert ecological and biodiversity advice to colleagues, applicants, agents, and developers at all stages of planning and development.
*Process and prioritise planning applications, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and BNG requirements.
*Support the team with ecological assessments and contribute to the development of environmental strategies.
*Engage with various stakeholders to facilitate understanding and implementation of ecological policies and practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications: *Relevant degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
*Ideally CIEMMA qualified or similar professional accreditation.
*Strong understanding of the Environment Act and its application in relation to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
*Proven experience in the field, particularly with BNG, capable of offering high-level advice and support.
*Experience working in a planning development management (DM) environment, dealing with planning applications, pre-applications, and condition discharge details.
*Familiarity with local authority policies, processes, and procedures is highly desirable.
