Summary The National Trust is renowned for its food and hospitality. We run 185 cafes, tea-rooms and restaurants all over England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and we’d love you to join us.
We’re looking for a Kitchen Assistant. In this role, you’d be making a real difference to the work of the National Trust, as well as helping to give people a memorable day out.
This location is in a rural area with limited public transport, so please think about how you’d get here for work, before applying for the job.

Hours: This role is an hourly paid, fixed term position. Wherever possible, we aim to offer a consistent working pattern, but we’re looking for flexibility as it may be necessary for us to alter this pattern from time to time to suit the needs of the business. We’d give you as much notice of this as possible. The role will include weekends and Bank Holidays, however, there are no evenings or split shifts.
Salary: £11.50 per hour.
Duration: Fixed Term Contract until 1st November 2025
Interview date: 26th or 28th November
Internally you will be known as ’Food & Beverage Team Member’

What it’s like to work here Nestled on the edge of the stunning Peak District between Sheffield and Hathersage, the beautiful Longshaw Estate welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors per year. We invested in a new, enlarged café just over 3 years ago, and are now looking to add a Kitchen Assistant to support the kitchen team with prep work, washing pots and keeping the kitchen running smoothly.

What you’ll be doing As a Kitchen Assistant, your main focus will be back of house. You’ll support our kitchen team with prep work and ensure the pot wash area is kept clean and tidy. You may be chopping veg for a freshly prepared soup, portioning brownies fresh from the oven, or weighing up ingredients to make our famous scones. With your love of working with people, your ’can-do’ attitude and your desire to provide an outstanding service, you’ll be making sure everyone has an enjoyable time. This is a lively business that’s constantly on the go, so teamwork and adaptability are crucial.
We’ll give you an induction that fits the job, and training in allergens and food safety, plus any mentoring needed to help you in your role. You can sign up for further professional training and development if you wish.
