Job Overview:
As Vice President of Engineering of our Discretionary Technology team, you will partner with firm management and lead an engineering team that encompasses all the technology functions of a leading multi-strategy discretionary trading firm.
You are a skilled technical expert with significant experience across all stages of high-performance real-time and historical data/analytics and/or trading systems from design and development to production support and monitoring. Moreover, you are a seasoned people leader who is passionate about designing and scaling a successful engineering team that adapts to changing needs of business units at the forefront of digital assets trading, data, and technologies.
The Vice President of Engineering for Discretionary Technology will be an integral part of Hermeneutic’s leadership, partnering with key stakeholders to prioritize and translate the company’s visions and strategies into executable engineering plans and be accountable for reaching those technical milestones.

Key Deliverables:
*Oversight and responsibility for all aspects of technology systems and infrastructure across the firm’s discretionary technology unit.
*Architect systems to scale with goals of the discretionary business over the short and long-term.
*Develop high-level product specifications with emphasis on solution feasibility, scalability, availability and maintainability.
*Define and facilitate software development and production best practices including code review, devops, documentation, system monitoring, production support.
*Lead by example and provide technical guidance and coaching to developers and engineers.
*Build and maintain an environment where the company’s technology team culture flourishes - encouraging open technical dialog between engineers, enhancing business partnerships, continuously improving technical systems, and adopting modern-day technology best practices.
Experience and Qualifications:
*At least 15 years of professional experience as a developer and/or architect, where the last 5 were in a management or leadership role overseeing small-to-mid size engineering teams.
*Experience working in highly agile software development environments on enterprise-grade software products.
*Experience in software development and coding in various languages (Python, Node, Java, etc.).
*Practical experience implementing CI/CD and container technology (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure).
*Experienced in integrating large data applications and systems, coupled with strong SQL and distributed database experience.
*Ability to mentor and coach software engineers toward professional growth.
*Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent presentation and interpersonal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences along with a strong sense of urgency.
*Proven success in establishing and achieving key technology milestones, short and long term priorities and ability to shift direction in a fast paced environment.
