Principal Design Engineer
Join our client’s team as a Principal Design Engineer!
Our client has secured a position on the National Grid 5 Year Light Current Framework, providing advanced systems using cutting-edge technology for new National Grid substations and extending existing infrastructure. The project will focus on delivering a safer and lower-carbon footprint.
Location: This role offers the flexibility to be based anywhere in the UK, with remote working options. Occasional travel to the Hebburn office will be required for team meetings. During the initial training phase, you will be expected to work from the Hebburn office 2-3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities:
*Successfully deliver transmission protection and control systems for various customers and sectors.
*Provide mentorship and coaching to the Protection Engineering team to support their development.
*Evaluate and optimize the delivery process to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
*Serve as the technical lead for protection and control on UK Transmission and Distribution networks.
*Ensure compliance with the latest policies and standards.
*Deliver high-quality customer service while maintaining top-quality standards.
*Demonstrate strong problem-solving, fault-finding, and analytical skills.
*Provide technical input for Sales, Proposals, and Operations departments.
Skills and Experience Required:
*Experience applying protection systems on the National Grid transmission network.
*Knowledge of National Grid delivery specifications and standards is essential.
*Familiarity with NG CDAE and TP141 Settings (beneficial but not essential).
*Strong understanding of the detailed design process (circuit diagrams, interface diagrams, cubicle design, settings, testing FAT).
*Experience using industry-standard software tools for design, simulation, and testing; knowledge of SIPROTEC/DIGSI is beneficial.
*Experience working with National Grid or EPC customers to provide protection solutions for both brownfield extensions and greenfield builds.
*Strong communication skills to facilitate coordination between teams, functional groups, and customers.
*Minimum qualification of HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, with extensive experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry.
