Job Description:
This role is subject to -
Qualification - Ideally a qualification in Information, Advice or Guidance (Level 2 or above) with a careers/employability focus and/or equivalent experience.
Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.
DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you, or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. We have a policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders, and it is available upon request.
Manchester Adult Education has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivating Careers and Progression Advisor to join our Ambition Manchester (in-work progression project) team. The role will involve the effective management of a caseload of Manchester residents, supporting them to increase their earnings through facilitation of opportunities, upskilling, employability support, careers education IAG and effective signposting.
You will be required to:
*Support the Careers and Progression Manager with the Ambition Manchester project aims and objectives, ensuring that project KPIs are met.
*Report regularly on progress to the Careers and Progression Manager, ensuring that all careers work is recorded accurately and stored in accordance with GDPR regulations.
*Establish excellent relationships with participants accessing Ambition Manchester, fostering rapport and agreeing realistic goals.
*Provide individual careers education IAG to support participant career development.
*Develop practical high quality action plans that will support progress to higher earnings and better employment.
*Provide timely support to participants with job search and application processes; having a flexible approach to work, including working from different locations and working outside core hours when required.
*Work in partnership with employers and referral agencies to ensure that participants gain the skills and competencies that will lead to genuine progression opportunities.
*Maintain and develop effective partnerships with external stakeholders to ensure that participants are given the best support with taking next steps.
*Develop and maintain a high level of labour market intelligence and where opportunities for participants lie at a sectoral level and through gaining ’on the ground’ insight.
*Contribute to ensuring that Manchester Adult Education continues to meet and exceed national MATRIX quality standards.
*Have specialist knowledge and experience, such as skills, housing, health and benefits, that can contribute to the varying strengths of the Ambition Manchester team.
Additional Information: Please note this role is based in Manchester and the successful candidate will be required to work citywide meeting participants in person, attending team meetings, attending citywide events and engagement with community organisations.

About the Candidate
As a Careers and Progression Advisor, you should:
*Have a track record of successfully delivering Information, Advice or Guidance and employability support to Manchester residents
*Hold a Level 2 or above qualification in Information, Advice or Guidance with a careers/employability focus and/or equivalent experience
*Hold GCSE A* - C / 9 - 4 in English or equivalent (essential)
*Hold GCSE A* - C / 9 - 4 in Maths or equivalent (essential)
You should be able to demonstrate:
*Professional competence to deliver effective Careers Education IAG
*Experience of working with residents presenting with varying needs and challenges
*Knowledge of Manchester based referral and support agencies
*Experience in flexibly managing a caseload of individuals
*Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
*Ability to assess needs/current reality and develop individual potential through career coaching
*A willingness to continuous professional development and team improvements
*Personal and professional responsibility for keeping up to date in the subject area.
