Could you be the compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant Who will provide the care and support needed to help children with SEND grow, develop, and succeed?
We are currently seeking SEND Teaching Assistants to join a specialist primary school in the Wakefield area. This role is perfect for individuals who have a strong understanding of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), as well as experience working with children who have non-verbal communication needs.
Roles & Responsibilities:
*Support non-verbal students by implementing tailored learning strategies to aid communication and engagement.
*Assist the class teacher in delivering lesson plans, providing individual and small-group support to students.
*Foster a nurturing environment that promotes emotional well-being and positive behaviour in students.
*Help with the development and implementation of personal care routines, including assisting with feeding, mobility, and other day-to-day activities.
*Collaborate with other professionals, including speech therapists and occupational therapists, to support student learning and development.
*Adapt and assist in the use of assistive technology to help children communicate and interact with their peers.
*Ensure that students’ progress is closely monitored, providing regular feedback to the teaching team.
Requirements:
*Experience working with children with SEND, ideally in a primary school setting.
*A solid understanding of EYFS and the ability to apply it effectively in a specialist setting.
*A passion for working with children who have non-verbal communication needs and complex learning difficulties.
*Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting children with diverse needs.
*Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with students, staff, and families in a positive and professional manner.
*Flexible and adaptable to meet the individual needs of students, both in ad hoc and regular roles.
*Previous experience working with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), complex medical needs, or behavioural challenges is desirable, but not essential.
*An active DBS on the update service is preferred.
