Job Description:
I’m currently recruiting for a Financial controller working for a dynamic and progressive law firm serving clients across the Somerset and Dorset. They pride themselves on providing expert legal advice and exceptional client care.

This is a new position, for an experienced and detail-orientated Financial Controller to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will manage the financial operations of the firm, ensuring the integrity of financial information, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the provision of timely and accurate financial reporting to support business decision-making. The Financial Controller will also be responsible for a small team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the firm, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
• Manage cash flow, forecasting, and budgeting processes to ensure the firm’s financial stability.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including VAT and tax filings.
• Provide financial analysis and insight to support strategic planning and decision making.
• Work with suppliers to negotiate best terms.
• Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring high standards of performance and professional development.
• Ensure appropriate levels of cover in the team and deputise for the CFO when required.
• Liaise with external auditors and manage the year-end audit process.
• Implement and maintain robust financial controls and processes to safeguard the firm’s assets.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
• Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on financial matters. Key Competencies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Proactive and results-orientated, with a focus on continuous improvement.
