Job Overview We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Senior Care Assistant to join our small, dedicated team in providing high-quality mental health care. As a Senior Care Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting our clients with daily living activities, emotional well-being, and rehabilitation within a safe, person-centered environment. This role requires a proactive, empathetic individual with experience in mental health support and a commitment to fostering independence and dignity for each individual.
Key Responsibilities *Client Support: Provide direct, person-centered care to individuals with mental health needs, including assistance with daily activities, medication prompts, meal preparation, and social engagement.
*Emotional and Therapeutic Support: Engage clients in therapeutic activities, encouraging participation in social and recreational activities tailored to their interests and therapeutic needs.
*Health and Safety: Monitor clients’ well-being, report any changes or concerns, and ensure that care plans are followed. Respond to crises following established protocols to ensure the safety of clients and staff.
*Team Leadership and Mentorship: Support, guide, and mentor junior care assistants, helping them develop skills and knowledge in mental health care. Serve as a role model, demonstrating empathy, patience, and professionalism.
*Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including daily notes, progress reports, and incident documentation, following confidentiality and GDPR guidelines.
*Liaison with Professionals: Work closely with healthcare professionals, family members, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to client care.
*Promoting Independence: Assist clients in developing skills that promote self-sufficiency, confidence, and positive coping strategies.
Qualifications and Experience *Experience: Experience in a similar role within mental health or social care, preferably within a community or residential setting.
*Qualifications: Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) preferred. Additional certifications in mental health, dementia care, or first aid are advantageous.
*Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build trust and rapport with clients. Exceptional problem-solving and crisis-management skills.
*Personal Attributes: Empathetic, patient, and resilient, with a genuine commitment to supporting mental health recovery.
*Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
