Job Title: General Ledger (GL) Accountant
Location: Edinburgh, Scotland
Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (9 months)
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000
About the Role:
We are currently seeking an experienced General Ledger (GL) Accountant to join a well-established organisation in Edinburgh on a contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled accountant with a strong background in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end processes. You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
*Prepare and maintain the General Ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with accounting standards.
*Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
*Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts.
*Perform balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are reconciled and variances are explained.
*Support the preparation of financial reports for senior management and external stakeholders.
*Assist with VAT returns and other tax compliance requirements as needed.
*Provide support during audits by ensuring documentation is complete and accurate.
*Identify and implement process improvements in the general ledger and reporting processes.
*Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial data is aligned across departments.
About You:
*Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
*Previous experience in a General Ledger or Financial Accounting role, with a strong understanding of month-end close and reconciliations.
*Excellent knowledge of financial reporting and accounting principles.
*Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting software (e.g., Business Central, SAP, Oracle, or similar) is preferred.
*Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
*Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and within a team.
*Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
*Experience with interim/contract roles is an advantage but not essential.
