The Pension and Endowments Department (PEN), which is part of the Treasury Vice Presidency, is responsible for the financial management and administration of the World Bank Group’s funded benefit plans, including the retirement scheme - the Staff Retirement Plan, the retiree medical and life insurance programs - the Retired Staff Benefits Plan, and other ancillary benefits (the Plans). The Pension Finance Committee, appointed by the Bank Group President and chaired by the Chief Financial Officer, has oversight responsibility for the financial management of the plans.

The Pension Investments (PENIN) team is responsible for the investment management of the pension plan assets. The key responsibilities include developing the investment strategy, which is outlined in the policy framework and strategic asset allocation and approved by the PFC, and executing the investment strategy through external fund management, ensuring the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors. PENIN manages approximately US$40 billion across various asset classes such as fixed income, public equities, private equity, real assets, private credit, and absolute return strategies.

Investment Analysts in PENIN are allocated to a particular team upon entry and may be reassigned to other investment teams at the discretion of the Manager of PENIN in response to business priorities. This Investment Analyst position is intended at this stage for the Private Equity Asset Class team. The team is primarily responsible for investing and managing the Private Equity portfolio, which includes fund investments across various strategies including, Buyout, Growth, Venture Capital, Secondaries and Co-investments.

The Investment Analyst’s responsibilities, as a member of the Private Equity Asset Class team, will include, among others, preparing Investment Committee materials, supporting due diligence activities, monitoring the portfolio and market developments, and assist with other activities as needed across the pension investment team. The roles and responsibilities are outlined in more detail below:

Roles & Responsibilities:

As part of the Private Equity Team, the Investment Analyst will assist and support the investment team in executing its work program. The specific duties will be, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

*Review and assist in preparation of performance reporting package on a monthly and quarterly basis (in conjunction with the middle office).

*Preparation of weekly Investment Committee materials (memos, agenda, minutes).

*Maintain and monitor investment pipeline (Investment Activity Report) and forward calendar.

*Assist in reviewing investment proposals and selecting outside private equity fund managers.

*Assist with due diligence and documentation for new investments, including investment memos, performance analysis, quality of teams and investment strategy, investment theses and risks, and expected returns.

*Assist in preparing presentations for the Pension Finance Committee.

*Assist in monitoring and supervision of current portfolio of existing managers (quarterly update calls and meetings).

*Perform research on overall private equity markets as well as specific sub-sectors such as buyouts, venture, growth capital and secondaries.

*Monitor/research the private equity market.

*Maintain benchmarking and comparative statistics using industry tools (Cambridge Associates, Burgis, PitchBook, Preqin etc).

*Assist in additional projects as needed within PEN.

Selection Criteria

*Graduate degree required, preferably in finance, business or economics, and two years relevant work experience in finance and investments (focus on analytical methods and quantitative analysis preferred), or appropriate combination of education and relevant experience.

*Professional Certification in CFA and/or CAIA is a plus.

*Proven quantitative and qualitative analytical and problem-solving skills.

*Proficiency in Excel and Excel macros, Word and Powerpoint is required. Familiarity with other quantitative analytical packages is desirable.

*Creative thinker, and quick learner, with initiative, drive and attention to details.

*Proven capacity to multi-task, deliver results and respond quickly and effectively to requests. Ability to work under pressure.

*Excellent communication -- both verbal and written skills are required. Experience giving presentations and trainings is desirable.

*Good team player with strong interpersonal skills, and commitment to work in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.

*Sound business judgment and confidence of convictions as they relate to investment decisions.

*Curious, creative, and original thinker, and quick learner, with initiative, drive and willingness to take appropriate risks.
