The Pension Middle Office team (PENMO) under PEN is responsible for providing a full range of functions supporting these investment activities, including the following: i) pension plan operational activities, ii) preparation of pension plans financial statements, iii) pension investment performance and attribution, iv) monitoring asset class exposures, v) all investment asset pricing and valuation, and vi) third-party clients’ reporting.

Duties and Accountabilities:

The primary responsibilities will include, but is not limited to, some combination of the following activities:

• Providing trading/operational support for internally managed trades and derivative settlements, including confirmations, reconciliation, settlement monitoring and acting as a primary point of contact with respect to assisting with other post trade events.

• Responsible for resolving and/or escalating daily operational issues with clients, custodians, fund administrators and other counterparties, monitoring outgoing payments / assisting with call backs. Processing of corporate actions, and income possessing, or other administrative matters in connection with investments of the Plans.

• Coordination of the new manager on-boarding process with the custodian, manager terminations and/ or asset transfers, opening new accounts, and assisting with various cash management and funding activities.

• Coordinating the class action process with the service provider, internal monitoring of class actions as part of a team and keeping senior management fully informed on relevant developments.

• Monitoring the key vendor related operational and financial risks through service level agreements, review of SOC (Service Organization Control) 1 reports, regular calls, periodic contract business reviews and key performance indicators.

• Supporting the front office’s Environmental, Social and Governance work program by completing annual ESG assessment questionaries and with respect to external service providers proxy voting services.

• Compliance monitoring of the Pension investments including working with both the custodian and investment managers to understand and/or report breaches where necessary.

• Support with respect to the reporting of the Plans funding ratio to counterparts based on internal models.

• Assist with the annual report design, editing and printing process by collaborating with internal stakeholders

• Perform operational due diligence of prospective investment managers in private market funds across different strategies (i.e., Private Equity, Real Estate, Private Credit, etc.).

• Responsible for using technology and systems to synthesize data and achieve efficiencies

Selection Criteria

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a general business-related field with minimum 3 years of related experience; Professional certification including CA or CPA designation a plus.

• Good quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and proficiency in Excel, as well as strong technical proficiency in Excel macros and/ or programing; familiarity with Power Queries, Power Automate, interactive reporting (e.g. Power BI).

• Record of accomplishment project management skills in relation to managing activities between the front and back/middle offices and the trade cycle between external custodians, investment managers and/ or trading counterparties.

• Knowledge of accounting and finance principals and procedures, and an understanding of financial markets and instruments; tax experience a plus.

• Knowledge of valuation and/or operations processes related to fixed income, equity, derivative, and alternative asset classes (including hedge funds, private equity, private credit, real assets, infrastructure, and timber).

Competencies:

• Financial Market Literacy - Can understand financial market processes; reads and analyzes financial reports and data such as holdings, valuation, performance, compliance, account reconciliations, position, margin, and settlement and risk reports.

• Investment Operations - Adept or expert in processing a suite of transactions such as FX or investment transactions, and/or managing bank accounts and reference data.

• Client Orientation - Able to establish partnership based working relationships with internal/external clients. Demonstrates independence, initiative, and autonomy in addressing clients’ needs.

• Teamwork (Collaboration) and Inclusion - Collaborates with other team members and contributes productively to the team’s work and output, demonstrating respect for different points of view

• High level of initiative, self-confidence, and a self-starter; ability to apply a practical mature
