Fire Safety Advisor
Location: Dorchester
Salary: £14.33 - £16.96 per hour DOE
Hours: 08:30 to 16:00, with a 30-minute break - flexibility required for early starts or late finishes.
Contract: 6 months

Our client is seeking a Fire Safety Advisor to ensure the safety of staff, patients, and visitors by delivering expert advice and implementing robust fire safety measures across their estate.
The Role
As the Fire Safety Advisor, you will work closely with the Fire Officer to provide expert professional guidance on fire safety management. You will ensure compliance with statutory regulations and industry standards, including HTM 05 (Fire Code) and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, while embedding best practices throughout the Trust.
Your key responsibilities include:
Fire Safety Management
*Conduct and review Fire Risk Assessments for all Trust premises, including external and off-site locations.
*Develop action plans based on significant findings and monitor the implementation of corrective measures.
*Carry out regular inspections to maintain fire safety standards in line with Department of Health guidelines and statutory requirements.
*Advise on structural fire safety for new constructions, renovations, and existing buildings.
*Act as a deputy for all fire safety matters, escalating risks to the Fire Director as necessary.
Training & Education
*Develop and deliver fire safety training for all levels of staff, including induction training for new employees.
*Instruct staff on fire-fighting equipment use, evacuation procedures, and patient evacuation techniques.
*Organise and carry out regular fire drills and evacuation exercises in collaboration with department heads.
*Manage the Trust’s Fire Wardens, ensuring they receive specialist training and are regularly updated on fire safety procedures.
Equipment & Maintenance
*Oversee the maintenance schedules for fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, alarms, dry risers, emergency lighting, and evacuation equipment.
*Conduct regular inspections of fire detection and suppression systems, liaising with contractors to ensure compliance with maintenance contracts.
Compliance & Reporting
*Maintain accurate records of training, risk assessments, incidents, and equipment testing.
*Produce detailed reports on fire incidents, false alarms, and compliance audits for senior management.
*Liaise with external bodies such as the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to ensure the Trust’s readiness and compliance.
*Stay updated on fire safety legislation, providing advice to align Trust policies with new regulations.
Collaboration & Leadership
*Work with project planning teams to ensure fire safety compliance in new developments and refurbishments.
*Act as the secondary point of contact with local fire authorities, maintaining strong relationships and coordinating joint audits or training sessions.
*Support the Fire Safety Group and Health & Safety Committee by preparing reports and delivering updates on fire safety matters.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced and proactive fire safety professional with the ability to work independently while managing multiple responsibilities. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to influence decision-making across all levels of an organisation.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
*Degree-level qualification in Fire Safety or equivalent demonstrable experience in fire safety auditing and compliance.
*Membership of a professional organisation (e.g., Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO)).
*Minimum of 3 years’ experience conducting fire safety audits and Fire Risk Assessments.
*Extensive knowledge of fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Fire code.
*Proven experience delivering fire safety training and developing training programmes.
Desirable Qualifications
*Level 4 Fire Inspectors Diploma.
*Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
*Training in Healthcare Fire Safety.
*Registration as a Fire Risk Assessor with a recognised accreditation body.
Skills & Attributes
*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risks and propose practical solutions.
*Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
*Proven organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
*Competency in Microsoft Office and the ability to maintain accurate digital records.
*A proactive, resourceful, and self-motivated approach to fire safety management.
Additional Requirements
*A valid UK driving licence.
*Ability to work in environments that may include confined spaces or heights.
