Job Description:
Our client is looking for an experienced ecologist to step into a senior role focusing on biodiversity net gain (BNG) services. This is a remote-first position, but you’re welcome to spend as much time in the office as you like.
About the Role In this key position, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality BNG services to a variety of clients. Your work will include conducting surveys, assessments, and providing expert advice. This role has been created to meet growing demand for BNG expertise, and our client is looking for someone ready to make an impact.
A significant part of your role will be mentoring junior team members, fostering their growth through training and development. You’ll thrive in this position if you bring enthusiasm, attention to detail, and a knack for helping others succeed.
You’ll be well-versed in UK habitat and species regulations, with a strong focus on best practices. While you’ll handle your own projects, you’ll also assist in reviewing the BNG work of junior colleagues and leading in-house training programs for the team.
Key Responsibilities *Delivering BNG services, including assessments, management plans, and related documentation.
*Leading training initiatives to upskill team members on UK habitats and BNG topics.
*Supporting junior staff with coaching and feedback to ensure high-quality project delivery.
*Staying up-to-date with legislative developments affecting BNG.
Essential Skills and Experience *3-5 years of experience in habitat and protected species assessments.
*Strong expertise in biodiversity net gain and familiarity with UK Habs classifications.
*Proven ability to produce detailed BNG assessments and supporting documents.
*High-level report writing experience, such as EPS licensing, HRA, and ES chapters.
Non-Technical Skills *A coaching mindset with a passion for mentoring.
*Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
*Ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively.
*Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Desirable Qualifications *Membership in professional bodies like CIEEM or RSB, ideally working toward chartership.
*CIEEM’s"Accomplished" criteria in Surveying or similar.
*FISC Level 4 certification.
