Job Description:
Job Summary
The Management Accountant will report directly to the Deputy COFA/Financial Controller, supporting the efficient functioning of the finance team. This role involves close collaboration with the outsourced Legal Cashiering, Management Accounting, and Payroll teams. This is a dynamic position that requires delivering timely and accurate information while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and meeting strict deadlines.
Duties
*Ensure accounting records are maintained in compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
*Assist with the preparation and review of monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss statements, balance sheets, prepayments, accruals, deferred income journals, and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
*Manage payroll and pension administration, working in conjunction with the HR manager and an outsourced payroll provider.
*Provide timely and insightful financial reports and analyses to support decision-making processes.
*Review and approve quarterly VAT returns, ensuring timely payment to HMRC.
*Prepare accurate year-end account information to facilitate the preparation of annual statutory accounts by an external accountant.
*Serve as the main point of contact for external accountants, particularly concerning the Solicitors Accounts Rules audit.
*Oversee regular cash flow management.
*Assist with budgeting and variance analysis.
*Supervise and support the outsourced Cashiers team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in service delivery.
*Maintain a flexible approach, taking on additional duties as required to support the smooth operation of the department.
Experience
*Solid understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules and their application
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
*Capable of working autonomously, using initiative with minimal supervision
*Strong time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
*Flexible, motivated, and enthusiastic; valuing both experience and commitment
*Focused on continuous process improvement and implementation
*High standards of professional integrity
*Quick to absorb and accurately process information
*Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines
