Power Electronics Engineer
Brief overview
*Role: Power Electronics Engineer
*Location: Hampshire
*Role type: Permanent
*Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 DOE (we would also welcome more senior engineers)
Recruit 12 has an exciting opportunity for a Power Electronics Engineer with an industry-leading high-end manufacturer, operating across various industries involved in advanced engineering projects.
This role is at the forefront of semiconductor technology, offering the opportunity to design, develop, and optimize next-generation power solutions.
We are able to consider candidates either with industry experience of power electronics or have worked in a research role. We will also consider PhD graduates who are looking to get into industry.
Responsibilities
*Design and develop inverter hardware (e.g., SiC/GaN power modules, DC/DC converters, and DC-link capacitors).
*Characterise, test, and validate key power electronic components and systems.
*Perform schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit analysis.
*Create technical documentation, including manufacturing packs and test procedures.
*Conduct simulation and analysis using tools like Simulink, PLECS, and LTSPICE.
*Stay updated on manufacturing advancements in power electronics.
*Interface with customers to exceed expectations and act as a product expert.
Required Skills
*Extensive experience in power electronics design and development
*Hands-on expertise with DC/DC and DC/AC converters, gate drivers, and high-frequency components
*Proficient in simulation tools (Simulink, MATLAB, PLECS, LTSPICE, or equivalent)
*Strong knowledge of EMC/EMI considerations and mitigation techniques
*Experience in the design and qualification of power modules to industry standards
*Familiarity with reliability and safety analysis tools like DFMEA or FTA
Desirable (not essential)
*Experience with automotive traction inverters
*Familiarity with electric machine control theory
*Knowledge of automotive legislation and functional safety standards (e.g., ISO26262)
*Exposure to 3D solid modelling tools like SolidWorks
*Wide-bandgap technology (SiC/GaN)
*PhD in Power Electronics or relevant subject area
*Chartered Engineer status
