About the School:
A supportive and inclusive SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) secondary school based in Hackney, catering to students aged 11-16 with additional emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs. The school is committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated English teacher who is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
*Deliver high-quality English lessons to students with SEMH needs, adapting teaching strategies to cater to individual learning styles and needs.
*Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the national curriculum, focusing on improving literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills.
*Promote positive behaviour management strategies, creating a safe, supportive, and stimulating classroom environment where students feel valued and respected.
*Assess and monitor students’ progress, providing regular feedback and setting achievable academic and personal development targets.
*Work collaboratively with the SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff to provide tailored support for each student, ensuring they can access the curriculum effectively.
*Contribute to the wider school community, including involvement in staff meetings, professional development, and extracurricular activities that enhance student engagement.
*Maintain clear and open communication with parents, carers, and external agencies, sharing information on student progress and working together to support students’ academic and emotional well-being.
Person Specification:
*Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification, with a strong background in teaching English.
*Experience working in a secondary school setting, preferably with students who have SEMH needs or similar vulnerabilities.
*Excellent understanding of differentiation and behaviour management strategies for students with diverse and complex needs.
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
*Empathy, resilience, and patience in supporting students who may present challenging behaviours due to their SEMH needs.
*A commitment to inclusive education and a belief in the potential of every student to succeed.
Desirable:
*Experience working within a SEMH, PRU (Pupil Referral Unit), or alternative provision setting.
*Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and restorative practices.
*Additional qualifications or training in areas such as SEN, mental health, or behaviour management.
