Job Description:
Credit Hire Litigation Executive (Paralegal)
Receiving over 66,000 instructions a year from more than 80 clients, HF is one of the largest insurance-focussed law firms in the UK.
We have been defending claims for insurers, self-insured, major corporates (including tour operators, cruise companies and hotels) and the public sector for 50 years and enjoy an unrivalled reputation in the market.
The Credit Hire department is one of highest earning departments across HF, led by three Partners who are experts in their field, between them they oversee a growing team of approximately 50 Credit Hire Specialists who are based in our Manchester and London offices.
So, could you be the perfect fit to join our Credit Hire department based at our Manchester office?
Progression
As a firm we are fully committed to nurturing and growing talent, and part of that is recognising the results of an individual’s work and rewarding high performance.
Progression isn’t just limited to solicitor qualification! Although, we have plenty of routes available depending on your circumstances. Many people within Credit Hire have had the opportunity to be promoted into management and operational positions and/or develop as technical specialists.
We have several routes for progression, from Training Contracts, Graduate Solicitor Apprenticeships and pathways in becoming a Team Leader or Manager. All our Trainee Solicitor routes are offered to internal employees only, we offered a total of 33 Trainee Solicitor pathways in 2023/2024, 15% of those are within our Credit Hire department!
Above all, we value potential so, if you are inquisitive, hardworking and passionate about achieving great results, HF is a great place to develop your career.
What do I need?
Ideally, you will have 12 months’ experience of credit hire file handling or have worked in the insurance industry. We will consider applications from law graduates if you have can demonstrate a particular interest in Credit Hire Litigation.
Whilst experience and qualifications are desirable, above all we hire based on potential so, if you are enthusiastic and want to learn and develop within an exciting and niche area of law, we are able to offer you the training to succeed.
You will need to bring an enthusiastic and self-motivated attitude with a desire to achieve and exceed targets combined with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The ability to demonstrate initiative and creative problem solving is desirable.
We would like to see a strong work ethic and a committed team player. We are a close knit and stable team that like to share ideas and experience with a view to achieving the best results that we can for our clients.
What will you be doing?
You will predominantly be handling your own case load of litigated delegated authority small and/or fast track claims (dependant on experience). In addition, the team deals with some of the highest value and most technically complex credit hire cases with some exceeding £50K. These can include appeals, credit hire fraud and strategic litigation; so, the role represents a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to high quality and challenging work. There will also be ample opportunities to help shape strategy and for contact with insurer clients.
This is what our Credit Hire Partner, Max, says about the role;
"It is a really exciting time to join our vibrant, innovative Credit Hire Department that continues to flourish through expansion of our client base.
We are really proud of our supportive working environment; we take great pride in nurturing talent and giving our people every opportunity to fulfil their career ambitions.
Background and previous experience has never been a barrier, if you feel aligned to HF’s values and bold vision, this could be an opportunity for you."
What’s in it for you?
We are not your stereotypical corporate law firm. We offer flexible and hybrid working with only 1 day per week in the office once successfully completing your initial training. We also have a relaxed dress code, so you can be yourself at work. We are always looking to invest and grow our people!
We’re always looking to recognise and reward our people for the work they do. Here are just a few of the benefits you’ll have access to, as part of our team:
*25 days’ annual leave (in addition to public holidays), increasing to 30 days with service
*Private healthcare provision
*Company pension scheme
*Enhanced parental leave
*Cycle to Work scheme
*Life insurance and income protection
*Employee Assistance Programme & Digital GP service
*Season ticket loans
*Flu vouchers
*Bonus scheme
*HF Discount Hub
