Job Description:
An opportunity has arisen within this Fire Service’s Business Fire Safety team for a District Manager to work with the Building Regulations and Complex Building team.
District Manager - Building Regulations and Complex Buildings
Location: To be confirmed on appointment
Hours: Full Time - 37 Hours per week (Flexi Time)
Contract: Permanent
Work Pattern: Monday to Friday
Salary: Grade 9 £42,708 - £45,718 per annum
The overall purpose of the role will be to provide management support, leadership and guidance to the Building Regulations and Complex Buildings team. The team is responsible for overseeing complex building regulations and fire engineering submissions for premises within South Yorkshire. As well as overseeing and undertaking fire safety work in high rise residential buildings on behalf of the Building Safety Regulator. Your main responsibility will be to ensure the achievement of the strategic objectives of the Department and the discharge of its statutory duties.
To be considered for this role you will have previous experience and an understanding of how fire engineered buildings are managed and maintained. Be able to interpret and apply prescriptive and performance-based fire safety techniques when carrying out auditing, risk assessing general fire safety matters or assessing fire strategies for buildings.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate complex, technical information clearly and unambiguously to a range of audiences, whether it be fire engineering peers, members of the public or Fire Authority, as well as providing mentoring and support to both fire safety and operational staff.
You must possess or be willing to work towards the Level 6 Degree in Fire Engineering (or equivalent), the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership (or equivalent) as well as the BTEC Diploma in Advanced Investigative Practice Level 7.
The key duties will include providing management, support and leadership to the Building Regulations and Complex Buildings Team to ensure that departmental targets are met, in accordance with organisational priorities. The successful candidate will support and advise peers and partners in all matters relating to fire safety, as well representing the service at fire engineering groups and external technical committees.
New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. The service offers 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. The service also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.
