Job Description:
Our client Scottish Power are looking for a Senior Reward Consultant to join their team at Scottish Power HQ in Glasgow (hybrid).
It is a contract role approved for 12 months.
Responsible for leading the delivery of key activities within the reward cycle and providing consulting support to the delivery of reward strategy, across all parts of the UK organisation and encompassing all aspects of the reward offering including: pay, bonuses, job evaluation, performance management, employee benefits and reward policy development.
• Lead the delivery of key activities within the annual reward cycle: including performance management, merit and bonus cycles.
• Work with relevant areas of HR to support the development of pay negotiation strategies through the provision of technical advice on pay movements and cost modelling of proposed changes and assist with the negotiation of pay and conditions where appropriate to influence the manner in which design principles have been reached.
• Provide consultancy and technical expertise across the Businesses in relation to remuneration and benefits practices to enable the attraction, retention, motivation and engagement of high performing people.
• Maintain a highly developed awareness of external market data so that an in depth understanding of market trends exists from which advice and guidance can be provided to colleagues.
• Lead the delivery of reward specific initiatives (initiate, plan and implement) ensuring that overall objectives and delivery timescales are met. Ensuring that the cost and impact of initiatives have been fully assessed and understood.
• Carry out effective job measurement in order to evaluate relative weight of jobs, provide feedback to businesses in plain terms (and where appropriate outline the approach and educate recipient on reward approach within Scottish Power) and on the basis of that evaluation make recommendations on appropriate reward packages for roles and best practice in organisational structure design.
• Support the development of the company employee benefits programme (includes sourcing and designing new benefits, contract negotiation and supplier reviews, plus the development and delivery of relevant employee communications) to maintain a market competitive employee benefits package.
• The job holder will manage and negotiate contracts with external consultants and third party service providers with responsibility for building strong working relationships whilst seeking cost effective solutions and ensuring effective delivery from contracted providers.
• Annual group reward cycle processes supported to ensure delivery within agreed timescales and successful completion.
• Manage external and internal reporting requirements and ensure good governance of reward processes.
• Keep up to date with best practice and external regulatory changes that impact the reward function through establishing an effective external network of contacts and, where appropriate, represent Scottish Power at Reward & Employee Benefits industry forums and events. Identify areas for improvement in the current reward policies, processes and procedures, develop solutions and implement changes.
• Job holder plays a leading role in managing the delivery of reward consultancy to UK Business areas working across all levels in the organisation including senior management, personal contract and collectively bargained employees.
• The jobholder will provide remuneration and employee benefits consultancy to UK Businesses, managers, employees and HR colleagues.
• Contributory budget impact as decisions made and guidance provided by the job holder will influence budget spend (e.g. benefits contract costs and business salary bill).
• Works in a team of 8, reporting to the Head of Reward, who in turn reports to the UK Director of HR Operations.
• Proven ability of delivering strategic reward consultancy to a range of businesses, designing and delivering reward programmes.
• Proven experience of leading the delivery of key reward cycle activities, e.g. pay and bonus reviews, annual benefits cycles, etc.
• Trained in Hay Job Evaluation methodology with proven experience of operating as an expert practitioner of job evaluation techniques.
• Experience of project managing the delivery of complex reward projects, resources and processes across a large organisation with distinct operational businesses.
• Demonstrates the ability to build strong and effective working relationships at all levels with internal stakeholders and with external suppliers.
• Proven analytical skills including the ability to analyse complex data to assess the cost and impact of changes.Team player with the ability to coach and mentor colleagues in relation to reward principles and practise.
• Working autonomously to meet the agreed overall objectives for the reward function.
• Plans internal/external resources effectively to deliver outputs successfully when faced with competing demands and in an environment where differing business needs exist.
• Responsibility for matrix management of resources within project teams.
• Able to make recommendations to senior management on reward initiatives and opportunities that have impacts over the medium - long term
The job holders internal relationships will include liaising with colleagues in the following areas:
• Senior Management - to lead engagement with regards to recommendations and approval of proposed reward initiatives.
• HR Department colleagues- influencing to ensure a full understanding of reward practises and principals and their consistent application within the business.
• Purchasing - to develop and implement cost effective strategies for the procurement of employee benefits and external reward consultancy services.
• Business Managers - providing reward expertise and advice to address business challenges and influencing to ensure correct and consistent application of reward policies and principles.
