The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently during humanitarian crises overseas. Our mission is to save, protect, and rebuild lives, working in close partnership with agencies in the affected communities.
We coordinate the UK public’s response through a unique network of media and corporate partners, setting up accessible ways for people to donate and mobilising resources to deliver aid rapidly.
Since our founding in 1963, DEC has launched over 78 fundraising appeals, raising more than £2.4 billion to help save lives and protect livelihoods in disaster-affected communities across the globe. The Ukraine Humanitarian appeal raised £439 million and helped an estimated 6.9 million people in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
Grants Manager- The Role:
The Grants Manager is integral in working closely with DEC colleagues and member charities to build and sustain, a solid understanding of the evolving humanitarian context.
The Grants Manager leads on oversight of the DEC Ukraine programme including the reporting cycle, adaptive programming and facilitate strong and relevant engagement with DEC member charities and local partners as well as external briefings over the duration of the response.
We cannot predict the need for a future appeal, but should one occur during the contract for this role, the successful applicant may be asked to stay on for an extended period.
Grants Manager- Key responsibilities:
- Key programme’s point of contact regarding the DEC funded programme, responding to enquiries from member charity programmes and other related staff, facilitating timely and accurate communication
- Manage and provide timely, response briefings to internal and external audiences, key stakeholders including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office [FCDO] and, other key stakeholders
- Travel to Ukraine and surrounding response countries to deliver workshops with members and their local partners
- Contribute to the review and analysis of plans and reports submitted by member charities in response to DEC appeals
- Share timely and relevant information and analysis from plans and reports with DEC member charities and local partners
- Manage external reporting requirements including preparation of stakeholder reports and infographics
Grants Manager- You:
- Recent, demonstrable humanitarian experience within the Ukraine response or other large scale Humanitarian responses. Experience in a humanitarian team in any of DEC’s 15 member charities, would be ideal.
- Proven ability to prepare reports for diverse audiences, utilising appropriate tools and methods to ensure recipients needs are met
- Proven experience of presenting complex data for a range of audiences
- Competence to prepare timely/accurate reports and deliver credible presentations to diverse audiences
- Proven financial acumen to comfortably evaluate financial information and manage budgets
- High attention to detail and numerate accuracy in analysing and using data and financial information, to write coherent reports
